Famous people might seem to look all happy and glamorous, but their lives are just as same as ours. In fact, they suffer from problems that ordinary people aren’t even aware of.A lot of celebrities have indulged in drug and drinking addiction. Some got eaten up by it, but some found their way back to life. Those who have revived their lives are a sign of courage, determination, and willpower for their fans.

Here we list down some of the popular artists who fought against the addiction:

#1 Drug addiction is one of the greatest problems that celebrities battle with.

The reason is not farfetched.

#2 Most celebrities think they need drugs to enhance their performance.

For example, musicians, when invited to perform on stage for long hours, may take the drug to help themselves endure the long hours and also to keep up the energy needed for the running about.

#3 Wrestlers, on the other hand, take drugs to enhance their muscles and absorb the pain of the hits they take while performing their acts.

Those drugs seem harmless at first but after a while, they get to the point where they cannot act unless under the influence of the enhancement drugs – the point of addiction.

#4 In recent times, the world has lost most of her musicians to drug addiction.

The story even gets uglier when you come to the world of wrestling where performance enhancement drugs like steroids are a norm. In the last decade, the world of wrestling world has lost some of her great performers like Chris Benoa, Ultimate warrior, and the queen of the ring, Chyna.

Angelina Jolie experimented with every possible drug in existence. She even suffered from anorexia and depression. However she pulled through her ordeal and by the time she did Lara Croft, She was rehabilitated and drug-free. She fought her drug addiction by surrounding herself with people who she loved and cared for.

The rapper whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers is almost a household name because of his fast past energy filled rap. Even the rehab couldn’t help his Valium and Xanax addiction at a point in his life till Elton John helped him get over the behavior.

His first tryst with fame followed nights of revelry and substance abuse. It resulted in scandals and problems with the law. He spent 16 months in jail and underwent compulsory treatment. It was then that he decided on giving up drugs which then helped him get great roles such as Iron Man. Robert Downey Jr received immense support from his friends who helped him get back on track.

If you remember the popular prolific rock band, Guns n’ Roses, then you will not fail to miss one of their guitarists by name Slash. After his diagnosis with a congestive heart failure, his wife encouraged him and together, he was able to overcome the habit.

Adele was always conscious of her looks on stage which caused her lot of worry. She began to drink to boost her confidence but it grew into a huge problem, she was an alcoholic. “Once I got so drunk that, when I had to go onstage, I forgot the words to my own songs. It was the worst night of my life,” recalls the performer.

She decided to kick the habit in 2009. After ligament surgery, she stopped drinking and leads a healthier lifestyle.

Britney nearly lost her successful career due to substance abuse, alcoholism, and family scandals. Only her father could have saved her from her certain downfall. If Britney’s father didn’t react on time, she would lose her career and kids.

#13 Sir Elton John

Elton started taking drugs very young. He took drugs to overcome his shyness. His addiction was so intense that he almost died of an overdose in the 1970s.

In 1990, John admitted himself into a rehab center. Today, he is clean of all illegal substances.

The reason why Kelly Osbourne was an addict is that she inherited that from her famous dad Ozzy. Kelly looked like a freak in the past, and she took various pills on a daily basis.

Her addiction was breaking her self-esteem. Luckily, Kelly’s last visit to a rehab center saved her life and her self-esteem.

The kid’s favorite fictional movie star Harry Potter had suffered from alcohol addiction five years ago. He claimed “There was a time when I was coming out of ‘Potter, ‘ and I was into the real world… I drank a lot, as has been recorded”. He has also reported confirming that alcohol addiction turned him into a person which he never really was.

However one day during a walk out in the park, a thought strikes up in his mind to regularly expose himself to fresh air and few hours of exercise. Since that day he has never consumed alcohol.

A pretty duckling face has seen the sinister times too.

Drew Barrymore belongs to a talented family. Unfortunately, their talents showed them some awful moments too. Her grandfather, John Barrymore, died at the age of 60 due to addiction. Her aunt too recklessly followed the dreadful path, and surprisingly Barrymore followed the same route.

She became a drug addict at the age of 13. Yes. Her mother had no clue how to deal with her problem.

She attended rehab for 8 months. She served as a waitress and a model after she came out of drug addiction.

Samuel Jackson is known to have most powerful acting skills in Hollywood. He became a drug addict on the failure of being accepted by any director or producer at a very early age.

He went to rehab for the treatment, where he stood in front of his wife and daughter and claimed to be a ‘drug addict.’ He told that it was the most painful act of his life.

One of the celebrities that began struggling with drug addiction from a very tender age is Jon Stewart, the presenter of ‘The Daily’.He started battling with his addiction from a young age of fifteen. It took the jibe of CGL Foundation to get him break free from the addiction from 2000 till date.

Kristin Davis aka Charlotte York was a heavy drinker. She started drinking at the beginning of her acting career because she suffered from stage fright.

Kristin’s friend persuaded her to attend yoga courses and Alcoholics Anonymous to overcome her addiction. Luckily, Kristin won over her addiction and became famous worldwide for her role of Charlotte in S** and the City.

#20 Demi Lovato

The “Confident” singer was not always as confident and charming as we see today.

Demi Lovato faced some of awful days of her life. During her Disney days, she was the sweetest girl, loved by all. But after sometimes, her life made a U-turn towards self-destruction as she became a cocaine addict.

In an interview, she opened up about her addiction in these words, “Something I’ve never talked about before, but with my drug use, I could hide it to where I would sneak drugs. I couldn’t go without 30 minutes to an hour without cocaine, and I would bring it on airplanes,”
