Actor R. Lee Ermey passed away at the age of 74.
Actor R. Lee Ermey, who was very famous for his role as foul-mouthed Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Full Metal Jacket, has died at the age of 74.
The actor's longtime manager, Bill Rogin, broke this sad news through his statement on Twitter.
Ermey was born in 1944.
He tweeted: "It is with deep sadness that I regret to inform you all that R. Lee Ermey ("The Gunny") passed away this morning from complications of pneumonia. He will be greatly missed by all of us. Semper Fi, Gunny. God speed."
Ermey was born in Kansas in 1944, he joined the Marine corps as a staff sergeant in the 1960s and early 1970s. He also served as a real life drill instructor. Ermey got a life-changing role in Stanley Kubrick's 1987 film Full Metal Jacket, which resulted in him being nominated for the golden globe awards.
